Jewellery Valuation

A jewellery valuation answers the question most drawers hide: what is this piece, really? Our appraisal service documents what a piece is made of, what the stones are, and what it is worth — in a written report you can use.
Why people get jewellery appraised
- Insurance coverage — schedule a piece on your policy with a documented replacement value, so a claim settles on paper instead of memory.
- Estate & probate — establish fair value when pieces are passed down, divided or settled.
- Resale or trade-in decisions — know the number before you negotiate.
- Loss & theft documentation — a report with photographs is the fastest way through a claim.
- Simple peace of mind — sometimes it is just good to know what the heirloom is worth.
What the written report covers
- Item description with measurements and total weight
- Metal type and purity (10K, 14K, 18K, sterling silver and so on)
- Gemstone identification — natural or lab-grown, weight, cut, color and clarity
- Condition notes: wear, chips, old repairs, missing stones
- Photographs of the piece
- A stated value opinion for the purpose it was ordered for — for example, insurance replacement value
When to get one
After a significant purchase, when adding a piece to an insurance schedule, when jewellery changes hands through an estate, and periodically on older reports — values move with the market, so a report from years ago may no longer reflect what a piece would cost to replace.
Common questions
Is an appraisal the same as a gem certificate?
No. A certificate (like a diamond grading report) describes a stone; an appraisal assigns a value to the finished piece for a specific purpose. A good appraisal uses certificates where they exist.
Do you appraise pieces you did not sell?
Yes — inherited, gifted and long-owned pieces are exactly the ones that usually need a fresh set of eyes.
