Jewellery Care
Solid gold and sterling silver are made to be worn — but a little care keeps them looking the way they did on day one. Here is how to get years out of every Fragments piece.
The basics
- Last on, first off. Put jewellery on after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take it off before sleep, workouts and swimming.
- Keep it dry. Chlorine, salt water and harsh cleaners dull metal and loosen settings. Take rings and chains off before hot tubs and beach days.
- Store separately. Keep pieces in their pouches or a lined box so chains do not tangle and stones cannot scratch each other.
Gold (10K yellow, white & rose)
Wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth after wear. For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water with a drop of mild dish soap, a soft brush around the settings, rinse and dry fully before storing. White gold is alloyed and rhodium-finished for brightness — if it ever warms slightly over years of wear, a jeweller's refresh brings the white back.
Sterling silver (925)
Silver naturally tarnishes when it meets air and skin chemistry — it is normal and easily reversed. Polish with a silver polishing cloth; avoid toothpaste and abrasive pads, which scratch. If a piece lives in a humid climate, store it with an anti-tarnish strip.
Moissanite & diamonds
Both are among the hardest stones in jewellery, so gentle soapy water and a soft brush are all they need. Lose the sparkle? It is usually lotion film, not the stone — a quick brush restores the fire. Check prongs now and then; if a stone rattles, stop wearing the piece and have it tightened.
